Working within the automotive industry has enabled me to gain a broad and strong business experience in the business development, new project activity as well as plant and operational management. My career started as an engineering apprentice at Cummins Darlington and from there I have gained experience in almost all areas of the business. During my time at Tallent (just over twenty-six years) I helped develop the company specifically in the business development area, growing the company turnover from £10m to just over £200m. This experience was gained in a global market, with activity not only in the UK but also the European, Asia and North America Markets.

I am a strong and pragmatic leader, who is capable of identifying and understanding the needs of both the business and the organisation, whilst ensuring that targets and objectives are known and realised. Throughout my working career I have developed strong presentation and communication skills, whilst taking on new and challenging tasks. I have also developed the ability to think positively and quickly in pressurised situations, which at times has included working to tight and demanding deadlines.

I am a Business Board member of the North Eastern LEP, North-East Automotive Alliance, Co-Chair of Durham County Councils advanced manufacturing task force and Chair of both County Durham Engineering & Manufacturing Network (CDEMN), and also Dept. Chair of the regions first UTC (South Durham UTC) located on the Aycliffe business park, with direct involvement in the design and construction of the build as well as supporting staff recruitment.
